About Bob Charland
The son of a lifelong Teamster and a healthcare worker, I grew up understanding the value of hard work and cooperation. I carried those lessons with me to the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned a degree in biology. But after graduating, I found myself drawn not to a lab, but to the people and communities that make Pittsburgh home.
I spent most of my 20s working as a bartender in South Pittsburgh, getting to know my neighbors—their struggles, their hopes, and the ways our communities come together to support one another. That experience shaped my understanding of what makes a neighborhood strong and showed me how much work still needed to be done to make every part of our city a place where people can confidently build their lives.
That’s what led me to public service. For five years, I worked for Pittsburgh City Council as a staffer, making sure the voices of our neighbors were heard on Grant Street and that city services were making their way back into our communities. I fought to make our streets safer, clean up abandoned properties, and expand services for those most in need.
In 2024, I was sworn in as a member of Pittsburgh City Council, and I’ve been fighting for our neighborhoods ever since. I believe that every neighborhood in our city should be a choice neighborhood—a place where people can put down roots, however they define family. You shouldn’t have to move to find safe streets, quality housing, or opportunities to thrive.
The lesson my family taught me still holds true—no job is too tough when everyone pitches in. I’m ready to keep pitching in alongside you as your City Council representative.
